I am Ruan Appleby

BEYOND BOOKS
Beyond Books is an initiative dedicated to making outdoor learning more accessible for students. I've always been passionate about working with young people and exploring the great outdoors. As apart of scouts and a scout leader for the past 10 years and a swimming instructor, I've seen firsthand the incredible impact that nature can have on children's growth and development.
BeyondBooks was born out of my desire to combine these two passions and create a resource for educators and parents seeking to incorporate the outdoors into their lessons and activities. My goal is to inspire and empower others to embrace nature as a valuable learning tool, fostering a deep appreciation for its beauty and importance in our lives.
One of the biggest challenges in achieving this goal is the varied environments and limitations of different schools and communities. However, by offering a range of recommendations and resources tailored to different situations, I hope to help educators make the most of their surroundings and create meaningful outdoor learning experiences for their students.
Personally, I find great solace and inspiration in spending time outdoors. There's something so calming and beautiful about being at one with nature, witnessing its resilience and its ability to reclaim and restore itself. This understanding has only strengthened my resolve to protect our environment and share its wonders with others.
As BeyondBooks grows, my aspiration is to create a community where educators, parents, and students alike can come together to share ideas, resources, and experiences related to outdoor learning. By working together, we can foster a new generation of environmentally conscious, well-rounded individuals who value and appreciate the outdoors as an integral part of their lives.
